I have always felt that utilizing the term humble in description of one’s own self in any fashion is… well… arrogant. Yet, here we are. At least allow me to introduce myself as well as the purpose behind writing my words down for the world to see before you judge to what degree they’re pretentious.
My name is Tai Bloch, I’m a straight white male from a mixed socioeconomic household from Ohio (yes, it’s a real place) with a diverse set of passions. Namely, I am nearly finished with my doctorate degree in occupational therapy, I currently hold my purple belt in Brazilian Jiu jitsu, and I deeply desire to become great in all aspects of life. Including a great coach, a great husband, a great therapist, and a great father to name a few.
Growing up, my father enlightened to me that my first and middle name in combination with one another sum to “Ultimate Destiny”. So, when I discuss with my therapist why I struggle with feeling some sort of God complex, we can always trace its origin to the day I was born (thanks pops). However, I have a fundamental belief that if you aren’t aspiring for greatness, or some ultimate destiny, then what are you truly doing?
Currently, I am embarking on a journey of self-discovery through combining my passion for martial arts as well as my career within occupational therapy, something that hasn’t really been done before. My goal is to increase the inclusive climate of martial arts promoting participation of people with all levels of ability through an educational curriculum for athletes and coaches alike. In the future, I desire for all instructors and athletes to feel confident and safe entering any dojo in the country regardless of their physical abilities.
This blog will serve as a weekly check in for myself and others demonstrating the progress of my journey. I aim to continue the blog after I graduate as well as a form of outreach and testament to my future. I believe that I am destined for something great, and if I fall short, I look forward to that too.
